- The Odyssey, Book One, Line 341
There are so many lessons in the Odyssey that you can not even count them, but as I learned, there are so many lessons that you find by just reading the text. Although the Odyssey felt like torture through the first couple of books, the book was still changing my life. With so many themes and journeys, I was amazed at what detail the story was told in. I was also amazed in the power that every single paragraph had in it. My favorite book was probably book 9 because I really liked how Odysseus and his crew tricked the Cyclops and escaped his wrath. I also liked the fighting book when Odysseus returned to the kingdom. There were also many extremely boring books which almost made me want to shut the book and throw it out the window, but this book teaches you lessons that encourage you not too.
Even though we were forced to read the Odyssey, and no one in the class wanted to read it at first, I learned the huge lesson. By reading the book, we had to persevere through the tough, which came out with a huge reward. Odysseus was faced with hundreds of challenges, and faced them all with his wiseness and his power. Even when he thought there was little chance of accomplishing his task, he tried, and eventually won. With all of the trials we read about, we learned to be just like Odysseus, and fight our problems. Perseverance, the key to success.
